Summer Edition- My Shoedazzle Top Picks!

Swimsuits-blog-featured-image

Summer is finally here in Chicago!  Woohooo!!  We wait ALL YEAR for these three months.  Summer means street fests, rooftop cocktails, patio brunches, weddings…and of course all these activities call for the perfect shoes & bags!  In honor of Summertime in Chicago, I wanted to share my top picks for the season from ShoeDazzle.

First up is KAMALY (by Izabella Rue for ShoeDazzle)- $59.95 reg ($39.95 VIP)

KAMALY combines two of summer’s hottest trends- lace up heels and brights. I would wear these for a pop of color with a little white dress or with white jeans and a tank  for a night out on a rooftop for cocktails or a dinner date.

Next up is HELENE- $59.95 reg ($39.95 VIP)

HELENE also combines two summer trends- platform sneakers & laser cutouts.  These are perfect for casual Friday at the office or for running around at a street festival or concert.  The cutouts make them super breathable and the platform makes them extra comfortable for walking around all day.

Say hello to my new summer crush, HUGH (by JustFab for ShoeDazzle)- $39.95 ($29.95 VIP)

Another trend that has made a huge comeback is saddlebags.  This is a GREAT thing since these are the perfect summer bag.  The long strap makes this bag great to throw on and be hands-free so you can dance, shop, eat, drink, walk the dog 🙂 HUGH is the perfect size for brunch with besties or a concert with friends.  I love the bright yellow and the cognac color goes with pretty much everything.  I have a feeling HUGH is going to be coming home to me very soon…

The best bootie award goes to, MEYERS!- $59.95 ($39.95 VIP)

These have become my new favorite booties.  I love the mix of the linen material with the cognac strap…super unique.  The block heel makes them comfortable to wear all day.  I pair mine with white jeans or with a simple shirt dress.

Perfect sandal to show off a tan, NYSSA- $39.95 ($29.95 VIP)

NYSSA is for a day when you’re really feeling the summer vibe and want to show off that tan (or spray tan) you’ve been working so hard on.  I would wear her with cut-off shorts or with a white sundress or black maxi dress.

Cheers y’all!  Now put on your favorite summer styles, get out there and soak up the sun!

I tried L’Oréal Paris’ Volume Filler line for 30 days; here’s what happened.

I’m 34 and have never had an official grown-up “skin care routine”.  Terrible, I know!  Thanks to genetics, I have never really had to worry much about my skin…no real acne issues, I have always embraced my freckles, wrinkles/lines haven’t really been a concern…up until now.  As the crease lines in my fore-head have slowly gotten deeper in the last few years, I’ve started to look into different options to minimize them and prevent them from getting worse.  Full disclosure…I’ve tried Botox a few times (just in the forehead)- and actually loved the results.  But, it’s expensive and has a ton of risks & side effects.  It’s been over two years since I’ve gotten any injections so the effects have definitely worn off by now.  In the past year or so, I’ve started to do some research on more sustainable, safer ways to take care of my skin. So, when I was approached by influenster to try and review  L’Oréal Paris’ Volume Filler line, I jumped at the chance.

File_000 (32)

This full line includes:

1- REVITALIFT VOLUME FILLER Day Cream– $24.99

2- REVITALIFT VOLUME FILLER Serum– $24.99

3- REVITALIFT VOLUME FILLER Eye Treatment– $24.99

4- REVITALIFT VOLUME FILLER Night Cream– $24.99

So, as I mentioned earlier, deep forehead lines are my primary concern but I am also up for preventing fine lines in the eye area and keeping skin moisturized so it has a nice “glow”.  I’ve notice that as I’m aging, and the “baby fat” on my face has gone away, my face looks slimmer but my skin isn’t as “glowy” as it once was.  Also, I get weird sleep lines that I never did before.  I decided I would commit to being diligent about using these products as directed for a full 30 days to see if there were any noticeable results.  The instructions are to apply the eye treatment and serum, both in the morning and evening, to clean skin.  Then, apply the day cream in the morning and the night cream in the evening- over the eye treatment and serum.  Obligatory “before” pictures (make-up free):

Before

So- what happened!?  I actually came to enjoy the ritual of applying the products in the morning and evening.  I’ve read several articles (magazines, beauty blogs, etc..) that say you should apply serum and wait for a few minutes while in “sinks in” before apply moisturizer over it.  For the most part- I followed this rule and would apply the serum after I got out of the shower in the morning and then did other things (blow dried, got dressed, etc…) for a few minutes before applying the day cream.  I did the same in the evening.  I typically use a make-up removing face wipe (Neutrogena) in the evening, as opposed to washing my face with water.  I adhered to this routine 100% for the most part, even when traveling.  The products are carry-on approved (less than 3.4 oz each) so I was even able to pack them while traveling for work.  Thirty days went by and I took pictures (also make-up free)…

Now for the side-by-side comparisons…

Overall I do feel my skin looks a little brigher and more even.  My eye area also looks refreshed.

My forehead lines definitely smoothed out quite a bit.  They are less pronounced and some seemed to fade almost completely away.

CONCLUSION??

I will definitely continue using the products.  They have a nice scent and have a more luxurious feel than other moisturizers/serums I’ve tried.  Also, the day cream has kept my face moisturized all day, even during the most brutal month of this winter in Chicago (February).  I still have over half of most of them left after 30 days, except for the serum which is almost gone (maybe I’ve been using too much?).  I do have one complaint…there is no SPF in the day cream.  For this reason alone, I may not replenish this product when it’s gone.  As we all know, the sun is the primary cause of wrinkles and skin damage…it seems crazy to me that L’Oreal would make a daytime product with no SPF.  Although, both of the beauty balms I use regularly (Urban Decay Naked beauty balm and Too Faced tinted beauty balm) are SPF 20 so that does help alleviate some of my concerns.

Thank you to L’Oréal and Influenster for this opportunity!

What’s your skin care routine?  Has anyone tried these products or in love with others?  I would love to hear your comments/questions/opinions!

**Although I received this product complimentary- all opinions are mine and mine only.  I was not compensated in any other way by any companies mentioned in this post.

The Perfect Winter Booties!

The Shoedazzle Fairy granted my wishes!  Haha- well, kind of.  I was able to select one item from my Holiday Wish List- how cool is that?  I had been lusting over the SURIANNA booties for quite some time and now these (faux) fur-lined beauties are a part of my collection.  Yay!  I have been wearing them all over the place and they truly are the perfect winter bootie.  Let me explain…the furry lining makes them luxuriously warm and comfortable, they have great traction on the sole should you encounter any random ice patches and they look good with just about anything!  I have worn them to the office with black leggings and a tunic and then with distressed jeans and a blanket scarf to meet friends out at a local bar to watch football. Once again, Shoedazzle, you have outdone yourself.  If you are thinking about getting these- do so quickly- they won’t last long!

Stitch Fix #6 Review

I took a bit of a hiatus from Stitch Fix this past year.  I didn’t really need any new clothes and the previous two fixes, I just wasn’t super pumped about.  But…they sent an email with an offer to waive the styling fee for my next fix.  So, I thought, why the heck not?  Here is my Stitch Fix explanation for you newbies:

“Stitch Fix is  personal styling service that shops for you and sends 5 items of clothing or accessories to your door, either monthly or on the date you choose.  You fill out a style profile your stylist bases her/his selections on your answers as well as links to your pinterest “Stitch Fix Style” board and LinkedIn profile.  You can also specify the amount of $$ range you want each item to run (i.e. for pants, $50-$100, $150-$200 or ‘as cheap as possible’).

If you keep nothing, you send it all back in their prepaid envelope and they charge you a $20 styling fee. But if you keep at least one item, that fee goes toward the cost of your item.”

Since my last fix, they have upped their offering for petites- which is very exciting!  I was pumped to see what they had to offer us shorties. For reference, I’m 5’0″ and 118lbs, 32DD, 0/2 in dresses, 25 in pants and XS in tops/jackets.  Here’s what happened….

My style card:

File_000 (5)

Let’s get to it!

Item #1 is the Kristah Ruffle Knit Blazer by Market & Spruce in XS for $78

I really wanted to like this blazer as it’s super cute from the back and side but the front-view is not great.  First off, the color is a little drab, it’s kind of a “putty” like between gray and khaki.  It really shows wrinkles and when buttoned pulls really weird from all sides.

Status: Returning

*Paired with the Lysse Pearson Velvet Legging (from this Stitch Fix shipment), Forever 21 white v-neck tee and Shoedazzle Leta heels in nude

Item #2 is the Kynley Dress by Skies are Blue in Petite XS for $58

File_000 (13)File_000 (14)

I actually love this dress.  Fit is great and it’s super comfortable and flattering.  Unfortunately, I don’t need a LBD right now, I have quite a few already.  The fabric has a slight “glitter” to it. Paired with BCBG “Jaze” suede pump in magenta.

Status: Returning

Item #3 is the Berkley Lace Back Knit Top by Le Lis in Petite Small for $44

File_000 (15)File_000 (16)File_000 (17)

I LOVED the back of this shirt.  The lace adds a subtle “peek” of skin, making this casual shirt a bit sexy.  But the front, on me, doesn’t work.  Having a larger chest sometimes causes shirts to “tent” and makes me just look frumpy.  So, unfortunately, this is also a no-go. 😦

Status: Returning

*Paired with Rich and Skinny olive green snake-skin print skinnies, Shoedazzle KAROL booties in black, Stella & Dot Rebel Pendant in gold & Stella & Dot Pave Arrow Cuff in silver

Item #4 is the Pearson Velvet Legging by Lysse in XS/P for $88

File_000 (20)File_000 (19)

I absolutely adore these leggings.  They are high-waisted and hit just at the right spot and the length is great as well (for me).  They are super comfy and feel luxurious.  Cons…they attract Pomeranian hair like a magnet!!  Haha.  I had them on for 20 minutes and they were covered!  Also…$88 for a pair of leggings is a bit steep.  I’m on the fence about these.

Status: Undecided

*Paired with pink tee from TJMaxx, Shoedazzle Leta heels in nude & Stella & Dot Pave Arrow Cuff in silver

Item #5 Maisha Ponte Faux Leather Jacket by Kut From The Kloth in XS for $88

File_000 (25)File_000 (24)File_000 (23)File_000 (22)

And I saved the best for last!!  She’s a keeper.  I love love love this jacket.  Color, style, fit, price, everything…right on the money.  I love a good mixed material piece and this jacket does not disappoint.  The faux suede front mixes perfect with the cotton back & arms.  The deep navy color is great too- a nice departure from basic black.

Status: Kept

*Paired with Forever 21 white v-neck teeStella & Dot Rebel Pendant in gold, Indigo Rein Skinnies (TJMaxx, no longer available) & BCBG Leopard pumps (no longer available- here is a similar style)

And that’s all.  Overall, I was happy with this fix.  If I would have been in the market for a dress or leggings, I would have kept those two items as well.  In the past year, I’ve done quite a bit of “purging” from my closet and I’m trying to limit my clothing shopping spend.

My Shoedazzle Holiday Wish List

My love affair with Shoedazzle started on September 24th, 2009.  I can still remember taking the “style quiz” and thinking how cool it was when I was presented with a “show room” of styles selected just for me by their stylists.  I can always count on Shoedazzle to offer up to the minute styles at great prices & quality.  I constantly receive compliments on my shoes and always make sure to share the love and let them know “Shoedazzle!”.

I recently was approached to join their Stiletto Society and become a brand ambassador.  As I was already a brand ambassador, unofficially, I was honored to accept the invitation.

I could go on and on all day about how great Shoedazzle is but today’s topic is my Holiday Wishlist (Shoedazzle, of course).

First, I would like to start out with a few recent purchases that have been a staple in my holiday even wardrobe.  The SHAWNA bootie and the BLACK COATED SKINNY PANT.  I went to a casual charity event last night at a local Chicago brewery.  I wanted to be a bit dressy but still comfortable.  Here are a few pics.

File_007

File_006 (3)

I no sooner stepped out the door of my apartment & got onto the elevator and compliments already started flowing 🙂  A girl that got on commented on how fun the pops of color in the fabric are.  I couldn’t agree more.  Perfect way to add a little fun into an otherwise boring black & white outfit.  Also, surprisingly, with the height and skinniness of the heel of these booties, they are super comfortable to walk & stand in.

*I am only 5′ tall so I had to tuck the bottoms of the pants under.  You couldn’t even tell though.  Perfect for shorties!

My Wish List is below!  Enjoy and please feel free to comment away!  Let me know what you think.

If you do decide to give Shoedazzle a try, please feel free to use my personal referral link- http://www.shoedazzle.com/invite/sq8199/

Peace, Love and Stilettos to all! 🙂

My Shoedazzle 2016 Holiday Wish List:

RAZIEL– perfect way to add sparkle to any holiday outfit.  I would pair these with distressed jeans, a tee, leather jacket and red lipstick for a more casual look and with an LBD to attend any cocktail party or holiday event.

NIKKI–  (in brown) Loving the cutouts and buckle detailing on these booties.  Perfect for transitioning into spring.  I would wear them with pretty much anything.  Great color too.

AMANDALYN– (in blue) I would wear these to dress up a boring black suit for work as well as with jeans and a black blazer.

SURIANNA– (in tan) Perfect Winter weekend go-to bootie.  Fuzzy lining and a stacked heel.  I would wear these tailgating or to the local bar to watch football and then to a casual dinner.

CLARKSBURG– I live in Chicago. Need I say more?  Ha.  These would be perfect for walking to work after a snowstorm or for a fun romp around outside to play in the snow.  Love the turquoise and gray together.

REESE– Love the lace up front of these boots.  Also, the color is different and unique.  I would wear these with jeans or with a sweater dress & tights.

Stitch Fix #4 Review

I feel like there are a million blogs that explain what sitch fix is so I won’t get too into detail but basically…

“Sitch Fix is  personal styling service that shops for you and sends 5 items of clothing or accessories to your door, either monthly or on the date you choose.

Boom.  It’s that easy.

Shameless plea for handouts- feel free to use my referral link 🙂 – http://www.stitchfix.com/referral/3662399

I’ve had three other fixes before and kept three items (one from each) and they were all tops.  At the beginning I put the dollar amounts to the middle ranges and also had them send me accessories (jewelry & bags).  I switched my $$ preferences for this past fix to “as cheap as possible” as I’m on a budget right now. Also- I’ve begun to sell Stella & Dot, which has an awesome selection of jewelry, bags and scarves so…I’m not in need of any in my fixes anymore.  Both tops I kept from my past two fixes weren’t something I would have chosen for myself, which is exactly what I love about this concept.  But…I haven’t really been in love with anything in any of the fixes.  I don’t feel like my stylist “gets” me just yet.

So for each fix, you get a style card that looks like this….

IMAG0039

They give you ideas on how to style each piece and your stylist writes a little personal note.

So let’s start…item #1 is by Pomelo, Martina Slub Knit Open Cardigan (XS), $54

sfslub     sfslub2

Hmmm…well…I don’t hate it but I think the name says it all- “slub”.  It just looks sloppy to me; something I would wear with leggings & a tee bumming around the house in the fall/winter.  It’s not something I would probably ever wear out. So, with that said, I wouldn’t pay $44 for it and I use stitch fix to get ‘fun’ stuff- this ‘slub’ is no fun for me.

Status: RETURNED

Item #2 is by Pixley, Indianan Chevron Print Mixed Material Tee (XS), $44

sftee1   sftee2

And again, I like this top, I can live without it.  I do love the concept of “mixed material” shirts…one of the other tops I’ve kept from sitch fix is a mixed material sweater that I get compliments all the time on.  So- at $44…I’m torn.  The colors in the chevron pattern aren’t my favorites but I do love a good grey tee.  And it’s the perfect length and weight of material for late summer into fall. I’ll have to sleep on it.

Verdict: UNDECIDED

Item #3 is by Papermoon, Tessa CHevron Print Sleeveless Blouse (XS), $44

sftank1  sftank2

There is not much I like about this tank.  Boring shape, not a fan of the color scheme.  I don’t have much to say about it.

Status: RETURNED

Item #4 is by 41Hawthorn, Filbert Polka Dot Print 3/4 Sleeve Blouse in Navy (XS) $58

polka1  polka2

I actually like this blouse (I hate that word, blouse) but I don’t have much to wear it with.  I feel like if I kept it, it would be one of those things that sits in my closet and never sees the light of day.  Plus, $58 for a button-up is pretty pricey.  Although this shirt does feel really well made and I love the cut , the material and sleeve length.  Perhaps if it was a solid color…actually…if it was white, green or black (without polka dots) I probably would keep it.  Bye, bye pretty polka dots.

Status: RETURNED

Item #5 is by Kensie, Kaleigh Ankle Biter Skinny Jean in Bosphorous (pretty green), size 25, $88

jean1   jean2  jean3

These jeans actually feel great on and the length works, although I think “ankle biter” implies that they are supposed to be ankle-length.  Obviously not on me!  They still are a bit long. I tried rolling them and pairing them with some chunky heeled sandals (middle pic).  Overall…they are fine.  I stood and stared into my closet with them on and realized the only thing I have to go with them is my white t-shirts, white button up shirts and maybe a chambray shirt. They just don’t seem very versatile.  And, being on a budget- it doesn’t make sense to buy a pair of pants I might wear a few times a year.  So- regretfully, these are going back too.

Status: RETURNED

Although I’m still not sure that I’m going to keep anything- I’m not 100% disappointed. I feel like the $20 styling fee is almost (almost) worth the experience of getting a fun package in the mail every month that could contain hidden treasures.  I was hoping to be able to like something enough to put the $20 styling fee into it and be able to justify the price.  I’m not sure that’s going to happen this month.

Takeaways…everything I’ve gotten for the past four months has fit perfectly.  That is AH-MAZ-ING to me.  I have the hardest time finding things that fit right, being petite but not really shaped like a typical “petite” person…makes it difficult.  So, I’m very impressed on that front.  Also, all of the clothes they’ve sent so far seem to be very well made with high quality material. Definitely a huge step up from the stuff that falls apart after the first wash (ahem- Forever 21)- but, you’ll definitely pay for the higher quality with stitch fix.  Cons…I haven’t been “wowed” by any of my fixes.  I re-did my style profile and asked for fun pieces and added a bunch of stuff to my Sitch Fix pinterest board (http://www.pinterest.com/suze_e/stitch-fix-style/) …not sure if my stylist paid any attention at all to either of those.

All of that said- as my best friend will tell you, I’m a forever optimist and hopeless romantic so I’m still holding out hope for Stitch Fix…and I can’t wait to see what next month’s box has in store!!
