I feel like there are a million blogs that explain what sitch fix is so I won’t get too into detail but basically…
“Sitch Fix is personal styling service that shops for you and sends 5 items of clothing or accessories to your door, either monthly or on the date you choose. You fill out a style profile your stylist bases her/his selections on your answers as well as links to your pinterest “Stitch Fix Style” board and LinkedIn profile. You can also specify the amount of $$ range you want each item to run (i.e. for pants, $50-$100, $150-$200 or ‘as cheap as possible’).
If you keep nothing, you send it all back in their prepaid envelope and they charge you a $20 styling fee. But if you keep at least one item, that fee goes toward the cost of your item.”
Boom. It’s that easy.
Shameless plea for handouts- feel free to use my referral link 🙂 – http://www.stitchfix.com/referral/3662399
I’ve had three other fixes before and kept three items (one from each) and they were all tops. At the beginning I put the dollar amounts to the middle ranges and also had them send me accessories (jewelry & bags). I switched my $$ preferences for this past fix to “as cheap as possible” as I’m on a budget right now. Also- I’ve begun to sell Stella & Dot, which has an awesome selection of jewelry, bags and scarves so…I’m not in need of any in my fixes anymore. Both tops I kept from my past two fixes weren’t something I would have chosen for myself, which is exactly what I love about this concept. But…I haven’t really been in love with anything in any of the fixes. I don’t feel like my stylist “gets” me just yet.
So for each fix, you get a style card that looks like this….

They give you ideas on how to style each piece and your stylist writes a little personal note.
So let’s start…item #1 is by Pomelo, Martina Slub Knit Open Cardigan (XS), $54

Hmmm…well…I don’t hate it but I think the name says it all- “slub”. It just looks sloppy to me; something I would wear with leggings & a tee bumming around the house in the fall/winter. It’s not something I would probably ever wear out. So, with that said, I wouldn’t pay $44 for it and I use stitch fix to get ‘fun’ stuff- this ‘slub’ is no fun for me.

Item #2 is by Pixley, Indianan Chevron Print Mixed Material Tee (XS), $44

And again, I like this top, I can live without it. I do love the concept of “mixed material” shirts…one of the other tops I’ve kept from sitch fix is a mixed material sweater that I get compliments all the time on. So- at $44…I’m torn. The colors in the chevron pattern aren’t my favorites but I do love a good grey tee. And it’s the perfect length and weight of material for late summer into fall. I’ll have to sleep on it.
Verdict: UNDECIDED
Item #3 is by Papermoon, Tessa CHevron Print Sleeveless Blouse (XS), $44

There is not much I like about this tank. Boring shape, not a fan of the color scheme. I don’t have much to say about it.

Item #4 is by 41Hawthorn, Filbert Polka Dot Print 3/4 Sleeve Blouse in Navy (XS) $58

I actually like this blouse (I hate that word, blouse) but I don’t have much to wear it with. I feel like if I kept it, it would be one of those things that sits in my closet and never sees the light of day. Plus, $58 for a button-up is pretty pricey. Although this shirt does feel really well made and I love the cut , the material and sleeve length. Perhaps if it was a solid color…actually…if it was white, green or black (without polka dots) I probably would keep it. Bye, bye pretty polka dots.

Item #5 is by Kensie, Kaleigh Ankle Biter Skinny Jean in Bosphorous (pretty green), size 25, $88

These jeans actually feel great on and the length works, although I think “ankle biter” implies that they are supposed to be ankle-length. Obviously not on me! They still are a bit long. I tried rolling them and pairing them with some chunky heeled sandals (middle pic). Overall…they are fine. I stood and stared into my closet with them on and realized the only thing I have to go with them is my white t-shirts, white button up shirts and maybe a chambray shirt. They just don’t seem very versatile. And, being on a budget- it doesn’t make sense to buy a pair of pants I might wear a few times a year. So- regretfully, these are going back too.
Status: RETURNED
Although I’m still not sure that I’m going to keep anything- I’m not 100% disappointed. I feel like the $20 styling fee is almost (almost) worth the experience of getting a fun package in the mail every month that could contain hidden treasures. I was hoping to be able to like something enough to put the $20 styling fee into it and be able to justify the price. I’m not sure that’s going to happen this month.
Takeaways…everything I’ve gotten for the past four months has fit perfectly. That is AH-MAZ-ING to me. I have the hardest time finding things that fit right, being petite but not really shaped like a typical “petite” person…makes it difficult. So, I’m very impressed on that front. Also, all of the clothes they’ve sent so far seem to be very well made with high quality material. Definitely a huge step up from the stuff that falls apart after the first wash (ahem- Forever 21)- but, you’ll definitely pay for the higher quality with stitch fix. Cons…I haven’t been “wowed” by any of my fixes. I re-did my style profile and asked for fun pieces and added a bunch of stuff to my Sitch Fix pinterest board (http://www.pinterest.com/suze_e/stitch-fix-style/) …not sure if my stylist paid any attention at all to either of those.
All of that said- as my best friend will tell you, I’m a forever optimist and hopeless romantic so I’m still holding out hope for Stitch Fix…and I can’t wait to see what next month’s box has in store!!
